 Gitaris yang baik adalah gitaris yang bukan hanya gitaris yang mempunyai tehnik tinggi dalam memainkan gitarnya, tapi bagaimana gitaris tersebut bisa dikenal walaupun orang baru mendengar suara gitarnya melalui radio. Sebagai contoh seorang penggemar Eddie van Halen mendengar satu lagu yang belum dia kenal namun bisa tahu kalau yang memainkan gitar di lagu tersebut adalah Eddie van Halen. Seorang gitaris juga harus bisa menjadi bagian penting dalam Band yang di ikuti, sebagai contoh, apa jadinya Led zeppelin tanpa Jimmy page, atau Metallica tanpa Kirk Hammet. Dan satu lagi yang terpenting yang harus di miliki seorang gitaris terbaik, seorang gitaris bisa menjadi inspirasi bagi gitaris gitaris lainnya dan bagaimana dengan musik yang dimainkannya, bisa membawa perubahan dalam dunia musik, sebagaimana musik yang dimainkan kurt cobain pentolannya Nirvana, walaupun kemampuannya bisa di bilang standart, namun bisa membawa Grunge menjadi genre yang sangat populer di tahun 90 an.
